I was acquainted with Warsan Shire’s poems online – one of her pieces on refugees I stumbled upon on a website. It’s so powerful and evocative I couldn’t wait for bookdepository to deliver her book of poems so I went to Kinokuniya to get it personally. It’s a mighty thin book but it packs a heavy punch. I’ll have to say that some of her poems are quite uncomfortable to read. But disturbingly brilliant in their own right. A piercing, haunting, aching outpour of emotions. What a poet.
