My Children’s Literature professor showed us the children’s comic version of this book in class the other day and I immediately made a mental note to myself to read the original novel. And so I finally did. Auggie, the boy of wonder, was born with a facial deformity. He underwent multiple surgeries, and was seen as different, abnormal, labelled “ugly” by his friends in school. Written from the various perspectives of different characters, this book brings you along through Auggie’s journey of pain, friendships, betrayal, acceptance, and love. A book that will teach you empathy and how in a world full of animosity and hate, kindness always trumps. Recommended for all ages.
