No Matter The Wreckage by Sarah Kay

Sarah Kay is one of the first spoken word poets who got me into spoken word. I watched herself and Phil Kaye on Youtube performing their spoken word pieces together and I was mesmerized by how moving words can be through this powerful medium. Then I saw her on a Ted Talk and this spoken word poem officially became one of my favourite poems of all time. So it’s no question – I HAD to have this book. And I am absolutely in love with her words. She’s my poetry #goals basically. Her observation and ability to build connection through quotidian objects (like toothbrush and bicycle tyres?) wows me. You’ll find themes of identity, growing up, family and love. She builds a world of discovery and she takes you along with her. If anything I’ve mentioned thus far seems like your cup of tea, I think you’ll find yourself somewhere between these pages.
